TiLite Releases Its First Carbon Fiber Wheelchair

The TiLite CR1 is a customizable carbon fiber wheelchair that weighs 9 pounds. The frame is built with narrow wheel arms and a unique front angle designed to get closer to objects and facilitate transfers. The side guards, which have a custom profile for the wheels, serve as a structural component of the chair. They keep the folding backrest in place and do not need to be removed to fold, allowing for faster disassembly and less chance of breaking or losing parts during transport.

“The TiLite CR1 is the culmination of everything I’ve learned and wanted to do with a chair – a true dream project,” said Doug Garven, senior product manager and creator of the TiLite CR1. “It has an aerodynamic tube shape inspired by F1 cars for effortless maneuvering, and the flat knee tubes provide greater surface area to maximize comfort while making the chair ‘disappear’ when viewed from the front “.

Overall, the TiLite CR1 looks like everything you’d expect from a high-end carbon fiber chair: sleek, ultra-light, minimalist, and priced to match its high features. Retail price is $8,320, about $3,400 more than the TiLite ZR, a titanium-frame chair that weighs 9.3 pounds, although it’s available for less at online retailers.

The TiLite CR1 is available in the US and Canada and will be available in Australia at a later date. Visit the TiLite CR1 page for more information.
