Chronus Robotics Develops Innovative Self-Balancing Mobility Robot “Kim-e” for Enhanced Visibility and Comfort for Disabled Users

Being healthy comes with many privileges that are often overlooked, such as the ability to stand up, sit down, or reach objects without assistance. To address the challenges faced by those with lower extremity disadvantages, Cronos Robotics, a Lithuania-based company, has developed a self-balancing mobility robot called Kim-e. This innovative device is designed to improve the freedom and visibility of its users, taking inspiration from the use of wheelchairs in motor sports, where even the most technologically advanced teams rely on manual wheelchairs.

Kim-e is a Segway-like wheelchair that offers a more visible and comfortable way for people with disabilities to navigate their environment. The creation of Kim-e was motivated by observing the use of manual wheelchairs in motorsports environments, which led to a decade-long project that culminated in the development of this personal mobility robot. This device aims to allow people to communicate freely and work with dignity, representing an important advance in mobility solutions for people with disabilities.

Kim-e’s design distinguishes it from traditional wheelchairs, emphasizing visibility for the user and minimizing the presence of the wheelchair and the disability. With its sleek, ergonomic design, Kim-e supports the user’s legs and back, allowing for comfortable travel at speeds up to 12 mph and the ability to change positions from elevated to seated. The device is hands-free, controlled by upper body movements and powered by a lithium battery capable of covering up to 30 kilometers on a full charge. Additionally, Kim-e’s foldable design enhances its portability, making it an innovative solution in the field of personal mobility devices.

However, pricing information for the Kim-e has not yet been announced, making it difficult to compare its profitability directly with other products on the market. Prospective buyers can register for test ridesindicating that the product is in an advanced stage of development and possibly approaching commercial availability.
