June 2024 Book Recap – The Fitnessista

I’m sharing the books I read in June and whether they’re worth adding to your collection!

Hello friends! How are you? I hope you are enjoying the morning so far. We are back from Spain, happy and with full hearts after an amazing time. I will share a full recap with you soon!

In today’s post, I wanted to share a roundup of June’s books. I had more time to read this month (10 hours on a plane from Phoenix to London can do that lol) and there were quite a few great books (and one that was a surprising flop). I’d love to hear what’s on your list and what you’re reading right now!

Here are the June books!

June 2024 Book Summary

The Threads of Health: A Guide to Understanding Hair Mineral Analysis

This book offers an in-depth exploration of how hair mineral analysis can be used as a powerful tool to assess and improve overall health. The book provides a comprehensive guide to understanding the importance of mineral imbalances, the impact of toxic metals on the body, and how this noninvasive testing method can uncover hidden health issues. By presenting detailed case studies and practical advice, Malter empowers readers to take control of their health through a better understanding of their body’s mineral needs and the benefits of hair mineral analysis.

I found the information to be repetitive, but I liked that. It helped me understand and retain the information and I think I will probably refer back to it many times. 9/10

Of Amazon:

This new book by Dr. Rick Malter is an introduction to understanding hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) and its role in preventing disease and maintaining optimal energy and health. This book links nutrient minerals to chronic fatigue and other common health problems that are poorly understood by traditional medicine and psychiatry. Drawing on over 40 years of personal and professional experience with hair TMA, Dr. Malter explains how the mind and body are closely connected by the effects of stress and other lifestyle factors on nutrient minerals. This is a comprehensive book that will help you make sense of the vast amount of health and nutrition information that often seems contradictory and confusing. If you take vitamins and minerals, this book is essential reading.

A court of thorns and roses

This book is a real success. I fought the hype for a long time, but finally decided to see what it was all about. I am now completely immersed in the world of Sarah J. Maas.

This book An enchanting fantasy that takes you on an unforgettable journey with Feyre Archeron, a mortal hunter who finds herself in a magical world after slaying a faerie wolf. As she navigates this new realm, Feyre encounters Tamlin, a captivating and powerful High Lord. Their budding romance is just the beginning, as Feyre uncovers a dark threat that endangers both the faerie and human worlds. This book is a perfect blend of romance, adventure, and magic, exploring themes of love, sacrifice, and resilience. It gives me Harry Potter and Twilight Vibrations in terms of suspense and writing, but obviously for adults. 9/10

Of Amazon:

When Feyre, a 19-year-old hunter, kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to exact revenge. Dragged into a dangerous, magical land she knows only from legend, Feyre discovers that her captor is no animal at all, but Tamlin, one of the immortal, deadly faeries who once ruled her world. As she lives on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns away every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of faerie. But an ancient, evil shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it…or doom Tamlin—and her world—forever.

Funny story – DNF (3/4 of the way traveled)

I had high hopes for this book Because I normally love Emily Henry, but this just wasn’t for me. I was SO bored. I felt like the plot was kind of boring and I couldn’t keep up with it. When I was 3/4 of the way through the book, I finally dropped it. Life is too short to force yourself to finish books you don’t enjoy. Since I started reading more a few years ago, I also started dropping books that weren’t worth it to me. It’s liberating.

Of Amazon:

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a windy day), fell in love (over a lost hat), and moved back to their hometown by the lake to start their life together. He really was good at telling it all… until the moment he realized he was actually in love with her childhood best friend, Petra.

This is how Daphne begins her new story: stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, with no friends or family but a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposed to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her situation: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.

Scruffy and chaotic, with a tendency to take comfort in the sounds of heartbreaking love ballads, Miles is the exact opposite of the practical and demure Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her that they have a bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates avoid each other, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also includes posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?

But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne is really going to start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex… right?

Unexpected: Finding resilience through functional medicine, science, and faith

I also heard Dr. Jill Carnahan speak and was amazed by her story of resilience and how she used her incredible struggle to move forward, heal, and help others. This book It’s easy to read and packed with practical strategies to improve your health and well-being. 9/10

Of Amazon:

There are times in each of our lives when change and uncertainty threaten to upend everything we believed to be true. It may occur after a diagnosis of a life-threatening illness, the loss of a job, the death of a loved one, or another unexpected circumstance that threatens our health, safety, or security. Written at a time when our world is changing at an exponential rate, Dr. Jill Carnahan’s gripping and compassionate exploration of healing through functional medicine presents a new paradigm for readers where darkness and fear are replaced by hope, resilience, deep healing, unconditional love, and unexpected miracles.

Each chapter reveals practical tips that can be easily used for conditions such as mold toxicity, cancer, autoimmune diseases, Lyme disease, and more. Dr. Jill’s raw and honest account of her own challenges facing a life-threatening illness, living with autoimmunity and mold toxicity, trying to save a failing marriage, and the harsh realities of working in a medical system that doesn’t tolerate stepping outside the boundaries, reveals a new path of empowerment to taking control of our own health and well-being. For skeptics or faithful alike, Unexpected is an invaluable guide to living an extraordinary life of love and resilience.

So, friends, what’s the best book you’ve read lately? Did you enjoy the Court of Thorns series and everything else?
