As part of the year-long program In celebration of its 75th anniversary, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is hosting a webinar to explore key advances in genetics and genomics research. Since its inception, NIMH has recognized the importance of genetics to understanding mental disorders and has supported research efforts related to gene discovery, functional genomics, and the application of this practice to clinical practice.

• The Psychiatric Genomics Consortium: A Deep Dive into the Fundamentals
  Dr. Patrick Sullivan, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ; Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden
  Dr. Sullivan will describe the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium, a high-impact initiative that has generated fundamental insights into the genetic basis of mental illness.
• Precision health for psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders
  Christa Martin, Ph.D., FACMG, Geisinger Health System
  Dr. Martin will discuss basic and clinical aspects of psychiatric disorders. Dr. Martin is also a principal investigator for the Genes to Mental Health Network, which focuses on understanding the role of genetic variation in rare psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders.
• Developmental trajectories in common neuropsychiatric disorders modeled in organoids
  Dr. Flora Vaccarino, Yale University
  Dr. Vaccarino of the PsychENCODE Consortium will describe molecular studies and developmental trajectories of mental illness.
• Genetics at the service of psychiatric care
  Francis McMahon, MD, Intramural Research Program, National Institute of Mental Health
  Dr. McMahon, from the Division of Human Genetics of the NIMH Intramural Research Program, will describe exciting directions for linking genomic findings to patient care.
